Next week The Butler and I take the old Empire Builder out to Portland, Oregon. We're excited because we'll have a little sleeper room with bunk beds and a mini-bathroom. I keep remembering The Three Stooges in an old episode where they were in a sleeper car with curtains -- and they just kept popping in and out of those curtains and making that Whoop Whoop sound. We have a porter to make up our bed and bring us coffee in the morning. I hope I feel like I'm going first class.
My brother Mike reminded me that we will be going right past my Dad's birthplace in Bantry, North Dakota. I don't think it will be light out but if it were, we'd see plenty of dirt and grasshoppers because the town of Bantry became nonexistent about 30 years ago. Gee, it always seemed like such a happy place when we were there.
